Adventure land!!!
1934
A Century of Progress.
You can usually find me rifling through old books and mounds of discarded pictures at the antique shops. Typically in Florida while rummaging it is pretty normal to find framed, crisp, Disney world tickets or books. It’s not very normal to find something like the ticket below. So what in the world might be the connection? Most items from other parts of the world end up here because people retire here and their stuff, even items that are almost 100 years old, go with them.
Not sure what the case is with this item but there is a Florida connection.
This was a ticket to the world’s fair in Chicago. It started in 1933 and was so successful that it lasted into 1934 bringing amazing cutting edge technology, science, philosophy, ancient Mayan temples, artifacts and so much more to the masses. It brought the world to one city for everyone to experience and it was magical. You could go to places like, adventure land at Enchanted Island (pg. 105) a precursor to Disney world. People could purchase tickets to see Sinclair monsters (dinosaurs), a 277 foot tall thermometer, items from the dead letter office (pg.83), exhibits from every state in the union, the latest in medicine, including incubators for babies. You could taste food from anywhere in the world, see a reproduction of Lincoln’s cabin, even Ripleys’ had an exhibit. (Pg. 124)
And on page 130 of the world’s fair handbook you could experience the “Florida home, a modernistic luxury, in a design adapted to the unconventional freedom of living, largely outdoors.”
So! How do you think this ticket got here, in perfect shape I would like to add, no issues, ropes or smudges. Like it just came out of the ticket booth.
Let me know your thoughts below.
